Description: The Centenary Suzuki School (CSS) is a thriving program, established 43 years ago at Centenary College of LA, the oldest liberal arts college west of the Mississippi River. With about 150 students and 7 teachers, it offers two semesters of weekly Tuesday group sessions with repertoire classes, theory, and three orchestras in addition to the weekly private lessons. Summer private lessons are flexible depending on the number of weeks offered by each teacher. Payroll is through the college. CSS offers numerous concerts yearly: 4 graduation recitals, several large group concerts, 9 solo recitals, 2 mid-semester solo recitals, 2 ensemble/orchestra concerts, and a Bi-Annual weekend workshop that brings in nationally known clinicians in conjunction with Mardi-Gras in Shreveport.
Cello instructor is needed to replace a teacher who retired after almost 30 years of service. Cello graduates of CSS have been accepted at Curtis Institute, Juilliard, Oberlin College, and New England Conservatory, as well as cello graduates who continued their studies as non-majors at Baylor University, Columbia University, Rhodes College, Centenary College, etc.
Many playing opportunities are within our area, including Shreveport Symphony, Texarkana, South Arkansas, Longview and Marshall Symphonies.
Duties: Teaching private cello lessons and weekly group classes, attending leading at concerts and recitals
Qualifications: Bachelor of Music in Cello with Suzuki training through Bk. 4 desirable with the willingness to complete cello Suzuki training through Bk. 8. Suzuki Parents Assoc. can help with additional training. (Shreveport Suzuki Parents Association could help with additional training)
