CYO Chamber Music Program
June 4-7, 2024Information
The Centenary Youth Orchestra Chamber Music Program
June 4-7, 2024
The summer program is open to all instrumentalists of all ages who are able to READ music. Students will learn to perform in small instrument groups. Students enrolled are assigned to a group/coach and given pieces to practice BEFORE classes begins. Groups are determined by age, grade and level of musical skill
Students enrolled must choose ALL times that they can participate in the application. If there are schedule conflicts during certain times of the day, we will do our best to accommodate these. Students may suggest musicians to play in their group. We will do our best to see if that can be arranged.
The program schedule includes a daily music theory class. The class is intended to both expose & further develop knowledge and understanding of music rudiments: notation, key signatures, rhythm, intervals, chords, harmony, forms, etc.
This year we are also adding an orchestra!
The summer chamber program culminates with a formal recital performance. This will be live-streamed. There will be pizza and soda for all students and their coaches at NOON before the performance. There may be a reception following the recital
There will be “all-camp” time from 12Noon-1:00pm Tuesday to Friday and will feature activities such as Faculty and student performances, program picture and Music Theory Olympic and Trivia Question Jeopardy. Student groups may also have an informal opportunity to perform during the ALL-CAMP time during the week.
The groups daily coaching sessions are 60-90 minutes long. Daily Music Theory Class is 60 minutes, as is the daily all-camp meeting session. The latter will include faculty, student performances, program picture and “Music Theory” Olympics. The orchestra rehearsal will be 60 minutes long.
There are daily snack breaks. No meals are provided.
It is suggested that if there happens to be any extended wait between classes or coachings, that students bring books to read or quiet activities to do.
